How to Assess Complex Exodontia and WHY Ridge Preservation is Critical for Restorative Success after Extractions
It is imperative to understand the complexity of exodontia prior to performing any extractions. By understanding certain factors that make exodontia complex we can make
treatment planning a success for the patient. Following a tooth extraction, the alveolar ridge undergoes rapid dimensional changes that can compromise future implant placement and
restorative outcomes. Ridge preservation techniques help minimize horizontal and vertical bone loss, maintain soft tissue architecture, and simplify subsequent implant therapy. This
presentation reviews the biologic rationale, clinical indications, and practical techniques for predictable ridge preservation in everyday practice.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- Identify factors that can aid a clinician in treatment planning complex exodontia.
- Describe the biologic changes that occur in the alveolar ridge following tooth extraction.
- Identify clinical situations in which ridge preservation is indicated.
- Compare commonly used graft materials and membranes for ridge preservation procedures.
- Apply practical ridge preservation techniques to maintain ridge dimensions for future implant placement.
